(Pssst… Thinking about ditching Prime? We did it — and This is Marin is what happened next.)

A home for orphaned baby squirrels. Full moon rituals. Speakeasy cocktails. Writing retreats in the redwoods. Free outdoor music, movies & festivals. Craft breweries. 500 miles of hiking trails.

That’s not a brochure. That’s everyday Marin.

This is Marin is a weekly toast to local life — fresh-squeezed like a Barefoot Café mimosa, chased with a little California Gold nostalgia. A nod to the people, places, and happenings that make this county feel like home.

Every Thursday morning, you’ll get an effervescent pick-me-up in your inbox — stories, discoveries, and happenings in Marin you might have otherwise missed.

A little bit about me.

I’m Kim Neumann, a lifelong writer and curious observer who’s spent years helping people tell their stories.

My career path? A little off-track: video production, marketing, textbook publishing (back when that was a thing??), a bumpy detour into acupuncture and Chinese medicine, and eventually right back where I started — telling stories and helping good brands find their voice.

I live in San Anselmo with my family and our clingy little bodyguard, Fonzie.

My style might not win journalism awards — it’s a little conversational, sometimes meandering, sentence-structurally questionable — but it’s powered by curiosity and rooted in genuine affection for this place and the people who love living here like I do.

It’s also full of questions like…

  • Why should we refrain from calling orphaned baby squirrels cute?

  • What does a famous local ice cream brand have anything to do with Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

  • And how can a local brewery transport you straight back to your early thirties with a freshly-poured Trippel?

Each story taps into a bit of what this place is made of. I hope they make you crack a smile, or maybe even send you off exploring.
