There are two kinds of people. The ones who simply cannot, for the love of Grappa, refrain from accosting complete strangers at the grocery store who clearly have just had foot surgery. They fit a specific profile, i.e. sporting a full boot and crutches. They are hobbling around in a feeble attempt at running the most mundane and yet decision-fatiguing of errands, slowed at least 77% by the recent tennis/basketball/pickleball incident or run-of-the-mill “misstep” that turned into a shattered Achilles tendon.
The other type of person just walks on by, letting them go about their business. (That’s my hubs — he’s in that perfectly respectable, “give people their space” group.)
I am not in that group. I am firmly heeled at the “aggressively curious and caring” end of the first group. And so, to my fellow shopper in the chip aisle — the one who, by the end of our friendly exchange, topped it off with “I’m glad I’m not alone” — indeed, you are not alone. There’s an entire club of us who believe minor life calamities are best processed in public, with strangers, over by the Great Wall of Chips.
Speaking of not being alone: you’re invited to yet another Floating Pumpkin Patch happening this weekend — this time at the Terra Linda Pool — and Porchlight is coming to the Dance Hall in Point Reyes Station – with storytellers, live music, and a reminder that community stories are best told face-to-face.
But the main event this weekend? Sausalito’s throwing itself a party.
Enjoy!

FEATURE STORY
Get Sausy, Stay Salty — Sausalito’s Back with a Toast
🍷 A Toast to Sausalito
Saturday, Oct 18 | 1–5pm | Caledonia Street
They call it A Toast to Sausalito — and it’s exactly that: a big-hearted block party honoring the town’s creative, dancing, musical, food-and-drink-lovin’ spirit.
Stretching five lively blocks along Caledonia Street, this free community festival brings back the energy of the old “Taste of Sausalito” days — only this time with more local flavor, art, and live music.
There’s a Beer, Wine & Spirits tasting (wristbands available for purchase here, don’t be customer 1501 though, the cutoff is 1500), plus BBQ and ceviche, sushi rolls, rockfish tacos, poke bowls, and cowboy cornbread. (What is cowboy cornbread? I don’t know — let’s go and find out, which is longer than a google search, but way more fun.)
Between bites and sips, you can take a salsa or hula hoop lesson, stomp some grapes, try your luck –or misfortune– at the dunk tank, or join a 17th-century barn dance on Pine Street (described as a folk dance originating from Scotland, Ireland, and England). Families can dive into free art projects — chalk murals, community mosaics, and “Color Me Zen” sheets throughout the event.
This year also kicks off a T-shirt design contest — the winning 2026 “Get Sausy, Stay Salty” artwork will be voted on by festivalgoers and featured on next year’s merch.
💡 Tip: Bring your reusable bottle (water refill stations available) and be ready for music, mischief, and something tasty in your glass.
